Lore and Luster Code of Conduct

Updated July 8, 2025

A Commitment to Safety, Inclusion, and Respect

Lore and Luster is dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants—attendees, vendors, authors, staff, volunteers, and guests. Our Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behavior we expect from everyone involved in our event.

These are not new or reactionary measures—they’ve guided Lore and Luster from day one.

By participating in Lore and Luster, you agree to uphold the following principles:

Respect for All Identities

We welcome individuals of every race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, ability, body size, religion, and background. Discrimination, exclusion, or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.

  • Use inclusive and respectful language at all times.

  • Honor each person’s pronouns and identity—without question or debate.

  • Do not assume anyone’s identity, background, or lived experience.

Zero Tolerance for Harassment

Harassment, bullying, or intimidation in any form is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Unwelcome physical contact or advances

  • Offensive or discriminatory comments or jokes

  • Verbal abuse or threats

  • Stalking or repeated unwanted attention

  • Deliberate misgendering or deadnaming

All attendees are expected to respect personal boundaries and obtain consent before engaging in physical or personal interaction. “Cosplay is not consent” applies to all costumes and appearances.

Accessibility and Consideration

We are committed to making Lore and Luster accessible for everyone.

  • Keep pathways clear and allow space for mobility aids

  • Use designated quiet or sensory-friendly spaces respectfully

  • Avoid sudden loud noises or flashing lights in displays unless clearly marked

  • Visit the Info Booth or speak with on-site staff if you need accommodations or have accessibility concerns

Cultural Awareness and Responsibility

Cultural appreciation is welcome. Cultural appropriation is not.

  • Avoid costumes, accessories, or language that caricature, stereotype, or disrespect a culture or identity

  • Vendors and creators must not sell or promote culturally appropriative or harmful content

  • Respect the origins and significance of cultural and spiritual practices, attire, and symbols

Responsible Participation

We ask all participants to be mindful, respectful, and accountable.

  • Support vendors and artists through ethical, consent-based engagement. Do not copy or redistribute their work without permission

  • Moderate alcohol consumption during social events. Intoxication is not an excuse for inappropriate behavior

  • Treat shared spaces, staff, and fellow attendees with care and kindness

Accountability and Enforcement

If you witness or experience any violations of this Code of Conduct, please report it to staff or security. You may report in person or anonymously using the hotline provided at check-in.

  • All reports will be taken seriously, treated confidentially, and addressed promptly

  • Lore and Luster reserves the right to remove any participant—attendee, vendor, author, or guest—without refund for violations

  • Severe or repeated violations may result in permanent removal from future events

We hold ourselves to the same standards. If Lore and Luster or any member of our team falls short, we will take full responsibility—including issuing refunds and making public accountability statements where necessary.

Our Broader Commitment

With recent conversations unfolding across the book convention space, we recognize that many in our community are feeling uncertain or even disheartened. That’s why we feel it’s more important than ever to affirm what we’ve stood for since the beginning.

Lore and Luster was built with a foundation of ethics, transparency, and community care. Our Code of Ethics and Conduct has always been publicly available, and applies to everyone equally—attendees, guests, staff, and ourselves.

We do not platform individuals or brands that uphold harmful or discriminatory values—no matter their following, reach, or popularity.

We are committed to repair when harm occurs. And we deeply value the trust you place in us by choosing to be part of this event.

If you personally have any concerns or questions—especially in this moment where tensions are understandably high—please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly. We’re here, we’re listening, and we’re committed to doing this the right way.

Creating a culture of safety and accountability requires all of us. We are proud to do our part—and honored to do it alongside a community like this one.
